Haunted Mississippi Paranormal Research

"Using science and reasoning in the field of Paranormal Research"

Our Equipment

Here is a little of what we use currently.  I will try to keep this up to date and eventually each individual may decide to post up their own independently used equipment used on investigations.

This is the Sony ICD-B300 Digital Audio Recorder.  We do use analog tape type recorders, however, digital audio recorders make it much easier to record and playback audio.  These recorders allow you to segment up recording sessions and level of recording intensity to be selected and changed.  Currently we employee two of these recorders and use them in sync usually with the Sony Omni-Directional Microphones.  Quality recording is the key to doing EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) work, and Sony is the best in the business.

This is a Sony Omni-Directional Microphone.  Sony has been a leader in audio quality for years.  Naturally, the decision on recording equipment for audio would be Sony.  These Omni-Directional Microphones allow a recording to be made with fewer problems of directional propagation problems.  These microphones allow you to just set it and start recording.  You will notice a running theme in most equipment we use is Sony.

This is an EXTECH EMF/Gauss Meter.  The general theory behind paranormal research when concerned with presence of entities is the magnetic theory that shows the generation of an electromagnetic field due to energy radiation.  In order to read these theoretically present fields these lab quality meters are created for this task.  They will take readings at range in the EMF and ELF field in a wide range from low base output readings all the way to high output readings.  I highly suggest these meters in that they can find a wide variety of common natural causes of phenomena as well as helping isolate unknown sources of EMF.

This is an Omega HH204A Thermocouple type Thermometer.  The general theory in paranormal research is that there are situations where thermal dynamics may change in an area due to a presence or an attempt by an entity to manifest.  A drop in temperature as well as a spike in temperature may indicate some of these situations by other instances.  This particular type of thermometer is a lab quality thermocouple design that reads air temperature at a very high rate.  Changes are indicated nearly instantly.  I have seen a lot of investigative crews get IR thermal meters and I do not think they are as good for use when using it to show temperature changes in the air or to trace down a location of temperature change.  IR thermal meters are good for items that are believed may be involved with the paranormal activity.

This is the Sony HandiCam CCD TRV 138 HI8 Camcorder with Night Shot 0 lux record capabilities.  There are a lot of ways to record video evidence when on an investigation.  One of the best tools out there to do this is the Sony line of HI8 Camcorders.  This is one of the latest in it's long line of quaility camcorders and has excellent quality recording.  Not enough can be said about this camera and works great for just setting it up and letting it run.

This is the Sony DSC V1 Cybershot Digital Camera.  I cannot begin to explain to you what my camera has done for me as far as quality and versatility go.  I have had my camera for quite a while and deserve a lot of credit for its service in everything I do when it comes to photography.  This particular camera has a hot shoe on top of it for flash or in the case of it's service with HMPR the IR Illuminator that sits on top of it.  The camera has Night Shot and works really well in night shot with or without the IR Illuminator.  Anyone who would ask me about Sony cameras, I say get one, they are worth what you pay for them.

This is the Sony HVL-IRM Battery operated IR Light.  Another fine Sony product, this illuminator works a little like a spot light when using the Night Shot 0 Lux features of either of our cameras.  This particular model allows you to use AA batteries or a rechargeable pack that latches to the back of the unit.  The illuminator will detach from the bar to allow it to be hot shoe mounted to smaller cameras like the V1 I use.  Great tool for using to help out the smaller IR lights on the cameras.

These are NATO Type D Angle Head Flashlights with filters.  When recording in low light situations you do not want to add anything additional to the conditions, but you need to be able to see where you are going.  Safety first when doing an investigation, keep a flashlight on you at all times.  These military grade flashlights are tough and come complete with the filters necessary to reduce the white light down so as not to damage recording conditions.  You can get these things at army surplus stores in all types of colors.  These lights are usually called Army Flashlights as well.
